To improve the stowage of planes on seaplane carriers such as the Hermes, Short developed the Short Folder Seaplane, which may have been based on the Short Type 74. It featured a 160hp Gnome engine and larger wings than the Type 74. Though experiments were carried out with torpedo armament, the Folders were usually used for coastal patrol in the early months of the war. By mid-1915 the planes, condition deteriorating, were retired. [1]
