The SPAD 17 was the ultimate SPAD fighter. It was a development of the popular SPAD 13 designed for the new 300hp Hispano-Suiza 8Fb engine. The wings and fuselage were strengthened and the horizontal stabilizers had a rounded shape reminiscent of the SPAD 16 two-seater. In testing, the SPAD 17 was found to be marginally superior to the SPAD 13. A test batch of twenty SPAD 17's were built. In the last few months of the war, they were parceled out to the top pilots of Les Cicognes (The Storks). [2]
