The SPAD SA.4 was a SPAD SA.2 airframe with the 80hp rotary. Its wings were positioned further back for better balance, and ailerons were retained only on the top wings. One was used by Aviation Militaire and the other ten were sent to Russia, where they were likely used until the Revolution and perhaps during the Civil War. As of April 1917, twenty-five SPAD SA.2s and SA.4s were still in use in Russia, representing about 10% of the total fighter force.[4]
