A small number of Morane-Saulnier Type L Parasols were license-built in Bavaria as the Pfalz A.I (with 80hp Oberusel U.0) and A.II (with 100hp Oberusel U.I). When synchronizers became available, a handful of these were converted to be armed with synchronized IMG08 machine gun and they were redesignated the Pfalz E.III. Front line inventory numbers list them on hand as early as October 1915, with a high of eight in June 1916.
