The Nieuport 12bis was simply a Nieuport 12 with an improved 130hp engine and a fully-circular engine cowl. They served with Aviation Militaire and a few with the Imperial Russian Air Service. Some French planes were armed with two Lewis guns and operated as escort fighters.[2]
