The Brandenburg NW was a early floatplane based on the Brandenburg W. Thirty-two were delivered to the German Navy during 1915. Deliveries starting in January 1916 carried a radio and sometimes bomb racks for ten 5kg bombs. [2]
The NW did most of its work off the North Sea coast in the early days when defensive armament was more of a luxury than a necessity. Deliveries in late 1916 through 1917 are presumed destined as trainers, because most seaplanes would have been armed at that time.[1]
Thirty Brandenburg NW were license-built by Gotha and labeled the Gotha W.D.6.[4] Deliveries of Gotha-built NWs commenced in May 1916.[5]
