By 1917-18, the Avro 504 had found its niche as a well-behaved training machine, but some Avro 504Ks were converted to Home Defense duties in the north of England, where they served with five Squadrons through the end of the war. A single Lewis gun was mounted above the top wing on a Foster mount. [5]
